Canada, a great place to live - and work

Key Findings Canada Land of the Free

The Legatum Institute has just released the latest findings from its 2015 Prosperity Index. The headline news is that Canada is now the freest country in the world, up five places from last year to claim the top spot in the Personal Freedom index.

94% of Canadians believe that living here gives them the freedom to choose the course of their own lives. Canadians are also highly tolerant lot; 92% of Canadians think Canada is a good country for immigrants and ethnic communities alike.

And there’s more to celebrate too…

Canadians: Educated, Cohesive and Efficient

Freedom is not the only reason to celebrate. Canada also ranks:

  • 2nd in the world for education (access, quality and human capital)
  • 6th for social capital (social cohesion, community and family networks)
  • 7th for Governance (accountable government, fair elections and rule of law)
  • 8th for Economy (policies, expectations, growth and financial sector efficiency)

Overall, Canada is ranked 6th worldwide, and is in the top 15 countries for all the Index measurements.

Good for Entrepreneurs too?

The lowest score is for Entrepreneurship and Opportunity (rank 15 worldwide) which is good but in our view doesn’t really reflect the vibrant business scene here in London Ontario!

We think London is fast becoming a hub for innovative tech industries, as well as home to a number of new and exciting initiatives. It’s one of the reasons Akira Studio moved offices here. What’s more, many of our website clients have set up new businesses, to make the most of new opportunities here in Ontario.

Fay Nour logo
Fay Nour is a great example. Irish entrepreneur Margaret has taken her passion for creating hand-made children’s clothing and founded Fay Nour, a bespoke clothing and customised embroidery store in Oakville. Fay Nour also has an online store, designed by Akira to be as bright, colourful and appealing as Margaret’s creations.

So, you can buy unique gifts for children, babies, and moms to be, many made to order, from the comfort of your armchair if you wish!

Margaret is also brilliant at taking photos of her latest stock and embroidery commissions and posting them on her Facebook page, showing the variety and quality of her work to a wider audience.

LAPark detailing logo2Chris Park owns a highly successful car detailing business here in London Ontario. He also owns a limousine hire company with two superb stretched limos for hire for weddings, parties, Proms nights, etc.

With one of the key selling points of his limousine rental services being the exceptional showroom condition of his limos, it made sense to combine the two companies into one website. (It also saved Chris the cost of creating and hosting two separate websites!)

LA Park are really good at social media too; check out their Facebook page for a chance to win four hours of limo service for any occasion you want!
