How fast is your internet?

golden snailIt’s one of those questions everybody seems to ask when the subject of websites comes up - “How fast is your broadband? Mine’s only….”

Slow business internet connections are not only irritating, they can also affect how you view the internet as a whole. If your internet is slow, then it must be the same for everyone, right?

Not at all. Figures from TestMy.net show that your broadband speed really does depend on where you live. That in itself isn’t surprising, but the locations with the fastest average speed did surprise us…

Does my small business really need a website?

It’s a question that you might well ask if you’re the owner of a very small business serving a local market.

According to a new survey*, 59% of small Canadian businesses do not have a website at all, and 41% of small business owners though their business was just too small to make it worthwhile.

Globally, these figures for very small businesses are about the same.The difference is that 55% of these businesses elsewhere in the world plan to build a website, whereas only 33% of Canadian businesses do.

Canada, a great place to live - and work

Key Findings Canada Land of the Free

The Legatum Institute has just released the latest findings from its 2015 Prosperity Index. The headline news is that Canada is now the freest country in the world, up five places from last year to claim the top spot in the Personal Freedom index.

94% of Canadians believe that living here gives them the freedom to choose the course of their own lives. Canadians are also highly tolerant lot; 92% of Canadians think Canada is a good country for immigrants and ethnic communities alike.

Google gets more mobile-savvy from 21 April 2015

mobile devicesGoogle often make updates and changes to the way they rank websites, but they very rarely announce them in advance. So when they do, we all should sit up and take notice.

Google have already made updates to their algorithms to adapt to the rise in searches made using mobile devices including phones, iPads and other tablets.

The search engine now checks that websites work properly on a range of mobile devices, and makes it simpler for users to find and view web pages that are mobile-friendly.
