Oh we do like to be beside the seaside...

Despite Brighton looking decidedly underwhelming in the rain, SEO guru Kirsty spent a wonderful day at probably the best UK search marketing conference, held just across the road from the beach and the remains of the iconic pier.

Not that she saw much of the seafront, spending all day eagerly capturing top tips from the movers and shakers in website content management, search, social media and more.

Pokemon Go; gotta catch those little data eaters

pokemon go single screenIf ever business owners needed proof that the next generation of Canadians love their smart phones, Pokemon Go is it.

The hugely popular game has seen adults and kids alike take to the streets to hunt down virtual characters - and use up vast chunks of data allowances in the process.

In case you haven't a clue what Pokemon Go is, it's an augmented reality game.

Players hunt down characters from the popular Pokemon series in the real world using an app on their mobile phone. The app guides players to the location of over 150 types of Pokemon creatures which are roaming wild in their neighbourhood.

And the app is eating into your mobile phone battery power and monthly data allowance every second of the hunt...

Digital marketing is simply the stuff you do using your pc or phone to help sell your business, and that includes your website, emails, social media posts, the lot.

So, we’re all digital marketers in some form or other, even if we get someone else to do the actual writing or website building or email newsletter (like Akira does for clients in Canada and the UK).

The problem is, sometimes we don’t tie all our marketing ideas together in a cohesive plan, and it all starts to get a bit messy around the edges...

Selling pens to search engines: why quality SEO copy is essential for e-commerce sites

At Akira, we build a lot of e-commerce websites, and we're always keen to discover new and better ways to help online store owners improve their site's visibility in the search engine results.

Nine times out of ten, this boils down to the need for well-written text that people and search engines want to read, and more importantly, converts a reader into a buyer.

The majority of our e-store owners don't actually make the products they sell. They are retailers selling well-known brands, and offer a whole catalogue of products to choose from.

The manufacturers provide pre-written descriptions and photos, so the temptation is just to copy and paste in the standard description, sit back, and wait for the orders to roll in.
